A Scot from Edinburgh but at university in Glasgow, I embarked on my radio career at Radio Clyde in the Newsroom. But I found the attraction of teaching Spanish, Russian, Portuguese and French was too strong to resist.
In 1985 I moved abroad (to England!) and managed to own a restaurant while teaching part-time. It was then I had a regular Sunday Nostalgia programme on Yorkshire Dales Radio, then on the internet and after I finally retired from teaching, I found myself doing a daily breakfast show on a community radio station in Yorkshire.
And now I am on Smooth FM on Saturday mornings - things seem warmer already! I’m happy to be involved in things Spanish again, having studied and taught the language and culture for what seems like hundreds of years! The lure of Spanish cuisine and wine is always tempting and visiting friends here is always a pleasure. They don’t have to ask me twice!
I hope my gentler Smooth Standards on Saturdays is to your liking - a mixture of the Sinatras and Fitzgeralds we know so well together with memories of top hits we may have forgotten, but which we can all share. I hope you’ll tell me if I’m not on the right lines!
